Chardonnay is the number one white variety in the Yarra Valley.

Year in and year out our soils produce wines that are both attractive when young and incredibly complex when carefully cellared for over 10 years.

We personally believe that Chardonnay should have real flavour without being overly lean or acidic. We strive for subtle fruit weight and texture without one aromatic or structural element dominating the wine.

Our 2018 Chardonnay shows nutty, just ripe nectarine and white flower aromatics. A moreish savoury style with a slippery mouthfeel followed by crisp grapefruit acid.

Full Moon Vineyard – Gladysdale – Upper Yarra – Yarra Valley

We work with Simon Harte at the Full Moon Vineyard in the Upper Yarra Valley. Located on grey loam soils over a gentle west facing slope in Gladysdale, this immaculate vineyard is tendered to like a garden. It’s a marginal subregion for grapegrowing but with careful vineyard management these mature vines have produced pristine, powerful fruit.


2018 had a shaky start with an early budburst and a warm and humid Spring. Healthy crop levels resulted but the disease pressure was huge, with unprecedented levels of downy mildew floating around. Good canopy management and timely procedures were essential to grow clean fruit and a healthy leaf area to ripen it.

The spring warmth meant it was always going to be an early vintage, and with a few searing weeks in January it felt like it was going to be a hot and fast one like 2008.

But what followed was the most stable and mild 6 week period of weather we’ve ever seen in the Yarra. Warm days (30 deg C) with very cool nights (10 deg C) prevailed and pretty much turned the vintage around.

Flavours and ripeness progressed slowly and evenly to create a vintage that will be on par with 2017.

The least complicated wine we make. Whole bunches are pressed cold after a night in the cool room. Juice is transferred with full solids to 2 old 500L puncheons, 1 second use and 1 new puncheon to complete wild fermentation up to 25 deg C. Low sulphur maturation with no stirring. Racked without filtration to bottle after 10 months in oak.
